Carol O. Long, PhD, RN, FPCN, FAAN is Principal and CEO of Capstone Healthcare and Founder of Palliative Care Essentials.
Dr. Long has been a registered nurse for over 4 decades holding various staff, management, education, and consultant positions on aging and palliative care services in all healthcare settings. Her passion has centered on geriatric care services; ranging from wellness through palliative and end-of-life care consulting, research, and education programs. Dr. Long is an accomplished author with numerous articles, monographs, book chapters and two books related to advanced dementia care, end-of-life care, pain management, and community-based care.
Dr. Long is an ELNEC (End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium) trainer and has presented end-of-life and palliative care training both nationally and internationally in the Middle East, South America, Australia and Asia. She has received numerous awards, including the Distinguished ELNEC-Core Trainer Award and was honored with the Excellence in Research and Education Award from LeadingAge through her association with Beatitudes Campus. She is a Fellow in the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association, a Transcultural Nursing Scholar with the international Transcultural Nursing Society, and a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. She serves as Adjunct Faculty for Arizona State University College of Nursing and Healthcare Innovation.
Dr. Long has a BSN from Marquette University, a MS from the University of Michigan and PhD from Arizona State University.
